Maternity and Child Health Electronic Health Records

MaCH EHR Demonstrator

Mother and Baby hands The Maternity and Child Health (MaCH) demonstrator project is working to establish an innovative Electronic Health Record (EHR) for maternity and child health services in Kingston and Richmond.

Every time a patient sees a midwife, obstetrician, health visitor or GP, important information will be stored in the EHR.
The project will benefit mothers-to-be by:
Helping health professionals to share accurate and up to date  clinical information relating to maternity and child health.
Reducing the need to ask the same question twice.
Making clinics more efficient and effective.
Enabling patients to access their own health records and make comments.

Patient participation in the project is voluntary and consensual.  All information held in the EHR is secure and confidential.

The project involves 9 GP Practices, 2 local hospitals, Social Services in the boroughs of Kingston upon Thames and Richmond upon Thames.  The project will finish in May 2002.  It is part of the Electronic Record Development and Implementation Programme (ERDIP), a national initiative that is laying the foundation for the development of a full cradle to grave EHR.
